Section 1

Tender Overview

On 20 July 2022, the Queensland Government launched the Hydrogen Industry Workforce Development Roadmap 2022-2032, developed by the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT) in consultation with skills and training participants of the Hydrogen Development Sub-Committee of the Ministerial Energy Council, as well as with broader industry, government, community, and training and education stakeholders across Queensland.

The Roadmap was publicly launched by the Honourable Di Farmer MP, Minister for Employment and Small Business and Minister for Training and Skills Development at the Clean Energy Council’s Australian Clean Energy Summit on 20 July 2022.

Action 1.4 in the Roadmap is the piloting of an online hydrogen learning program for school students. To deliver this action, DESBT will fund the delivery of a hydrogen-specific online learning program for Queensland state high school students that builds awareness of industry and foundational skills, including in STEM. This action responds to a key message heard from industry during consultation on the Roadmap, as well as through discussions at the 2022 Queensland Workforce Summit, around the importance of ensuring a pipeline of skilled workers for the hydrogen industry as it develops into the future.

The online learning content is to be developed in consultation with industry, to ensure it reflects the skills needs of the emerging hydrogen industry, as well as being applicable to the broader renewable energy sector.

This initiative will complement the additional funding being provided separately for hydrogen learning under the Gateway to Industry Schools Program (GISP) by creating learning opportunities that are available online for all schools including those not committing to a GISP partnership. The resource will be available on demand for teachers to access and incorporate into their programs and for students to access directly.
