The Cairns Main Wharves, Wharves 1-5, were constructed prior to 1915 and are heritage listed. The wharves have a long history of maintenance and repairs.
As part of the ongoing Maintenance Strategy for Wharves 1-5 several components of the wharf have been identified for major structural repairs. The intent of this contract is to deliver these structural repairs.
In general the scope of work includes:
• Implementation of all Project Management Plans and Insurances necessary for the works (WH&S, QA, EMP, TMP, Program)
• Provision of appropriate access and environmental controls, including containment measures.
• Removal of degraded concrete by high pressure hydro-demolition.
• Replacement of severely corroded reinforcement bars.
• Reinstatement of concrete.
• Application of silanes to the new concrete surfaces.
• Provision of records and as-constructed information.
The detailed scope of work is outlined on the drawings and specification contained within this tender document.
It is noted that wharves 1-5 are below a publically accessible wharf deck area. It will be critical to ensure that all reasonable measures are taken to minimise the effect of the works on the surrounding environment and wharf users.
The intent of this contract is to:
• Complete repairs to 20 piles that are presently in poor condition.
• Complete repairs to approximately 150m2 of slab soffit.
Of particular importance will be:
• Environmental Management in the marine environment.
• The need to minimise disruptions to existing operations and wharf stakeholders.
• An understanding of the tidal conditions under the wharf.
• The quality of the workmanship.
• Safety.
PN requests Tender Submissions from suitably qualified Contractors with appropriate experience in the repair of reinforced concrete marine structures. Works are to be undertaken on an operational wharf and include the use of appropriate access and environmental controls in the tidal zone.
