GEO23-00246 - Southern Dams Maintenance
The Department of Resources is responsible for the management and maintenance of Proston, Nanango, Cressbrook, Lower Cressbrook, Isis, Kariboe and Mungungo dams all of which are located in Southeast Queensland, refer to Dam Location maps, Google Earth kmz and the seven individual dam scope documents Attachments 1 to 12. Note Google Earth kmz is best viewed using Queensland Globe Queensland Globe (information.qld.gov.au) or alternatively on Google Earth Pro.
Timing: It is a requirement that these works are commenced in early February 2023, and undertaken according to the agreed project schedule.
Relevant information and details about each site are covered individually in Health, Safety & Environmental Management Plans, for the dams, Attachments 1-7, Combined Site Safety Inductions for all seven dams Attachment 8, however in general:
- Mobile reception is limited at most dams.
- There are no toilet facilities or hand washing facilities available at all of the dams.
- There is no drinking water available at any of the dams. All contractors will be required to bring sufficient drinking water with them to site daily.
- There is no power or offices available at any of the dams.
- Nearest towns and access details are covered in the location maps and individual site inductions.
The Department of Resources wishes to complete identified minor maintenance on seven of the dams in the Southern area of Queensland. Refer also to Combined Scope with pictures for all seven dams, Attachment 9.
For all weirs- Required herbicide and verification of required competencies.
For all grasses a mix of frog friendly glyphosate ‘WeedMaster Duo’ and pre-emergence (residual) ‘Mako’ herbicides are to be used. For all trees, saplings and woody weeds ‘Grazon Extra’ herbicide is to be used.
All herbicides must be applied by suitably licenced persons and used as per the manufacture’s labels and directions.
For safety and efficiency marker dye must be included for all herbicide application.
A suitably trained and current ticketed Level 2 chainsaw operator is required for all chainsaw use
