Section 1

Tender Overview

Queensland Hydro is seeking to progress the Borumba PHES Project by partnering with a suitably qualified and capable dam designer to progress the conceptual dam designs, completed to date, to delivery of Issue For Construction documentation.

This package will involve:

  • progressing the Front End Engineering Design to Issue For Tender,
  • supporting Queensland Hydro in obtaining construction partner,
  • progressing the design to Issue for Construction, and
  • providing Construction Verification and Support.

The package requires the designer to prepare designs for both the Lower and Upper Reservoirs, totaling 7 structures as well as appurtenant works (excluding power waterways). Designers should consider their experience in the design of RCC and CFRD dam types, and preparation of Dam Safety Management Systems.

In addition, the designer will be required to:

  • collect, interpret, and model the required geotechnical information with support from our Geotechnical Technical Managerial Service provider,
  • engage with our Physical Hydraulic Modelling service provider to validate designs, and
  • work with our Technical Review Panel

The package is expected to be released Mid October to Early November 2023, with contract award commencing from February 2024.
