Tender Overview

Queensland Hydro is seeking a suitably qualified Dams Designer to advance our Borumba Pumped Hydro Project. The successful RFP Proponent will partner with Queensland Hydro to progress the designs of both the Upper and Lower Reservoirs and assist in the process of engaging Dam Contractors. They will then work collaboratively with Queensland Hydro and the respective Dam Contractors to deliver the reservoirs.

The Dams Designer RFP Package requires the Dams Designer to prepare Issue For Tender (IFT) Designs for both the Lower and Upper Reservoirs, totalling 7 dam structures and appurtenant works (excluding power waterways). Dams Designers should consider their experience in the design of RCC and CFRD dam types, and preparation of Dam Safety Management Systems.

The works will comprise 4 Separable Portions for each reservoir and include:

  • progressing the Front-End Engineering Design to IFT;
  • supporting Queensland Hydro in obtaining a Dam Contractor(s);
  • progressing the IFT Design to IFC; and,
  • providing Construction Phase Services.

Additionally, the Dam Designer will be required to:

  • specify, interpret, and model the required geotechnical information with support from our Geotechnical Technical Managerial Service provider;
  • engage with our Physical Hydraulic Modelling service provider to validate designs;
  • work with our Technical Review Panel and external stakeholders; and,
  • work flexibly with Queensland Hydro and its Dam Contractors as the Borumba Pumped Hydro Project progresses.

The package is expected to be released in Q1 2024 with the awarding of the contract occurring in Q2 2024.
